LOS ANGELES, March 12 (UPI) -- The verdict in the Los Angeles trial of a teenager accused of killing actor Merlin Santana will be announced Monday, KNBC-TV reported Friday.

Monique King, 17, was 15 in November 2002 when Santana was shot in the head, but was tried as an adult. The jury finished its deliberations Thursday, but the verdict was held by the court through the weekend.

Brandon Douglas Bynes, 25, was sentenced Thursday to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon.

Damien Andre Gates, 21, was sentenced in February to 70 years to life in prison after he was convicted of first-degree murder in Santana's death.

Bynes, King and Gates were arrested soon after the shooting.

Santana, 26, was best known for his work on the "Steve Harvey Show."
