NEW YORK, March 11 (UPI) -- "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, Oprah Winfrey's favorite books and suspense novels were among the decade's top-selling 100 books in the United States.

Rowling, who 10 years ago was an undiscovered writer, was the decade's most successful author, claiming five of the top six spots on the list of the 100 best-selling books of the past 10 years, USA Today reported Thursday.

Oprah Winfrey's endorsement on her daily talk show was the kiss of success for many authors. Four of her TV book club selections made the top 100 of the decade list. She also was associated with three other titles on the list, including No. 21, "In the Kitchen With Rosie" by Rosie Daley, Winfrey's cook.

Thrillers made a comeback among readers during the past 10 years, with 12 novels on the list of 100 by John Grisham.

Brand-name series also were popular during the past decade with books such as "Chicken Soup for the Soul" making the list along with two off shoots of the original.
