Jack White pleads guilty to assault

DETROIT, March 10 (UPI) -- White Stripes vocalist Jack White has escaped jail time by pleading guilty to a lesser assault charge stemming from a Dec. 13 brawl in Detroit.

White was fined $500 and ordered to pay $200 in court costs after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery against Von Blondies frontman Jason Stollsteimer, MTV Online reported Wednesday.

White previously said he acted in self defense during the fight at a Detroit rock club, but he reversed his plea Tuesday in exchange for a lesser charge. Originally, White had been charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault, which carried a penalty of a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.

White also must attend anger management classes.

During the altercation, Stollsteimer suffered severe facial bruising and a torn retina that required surgery. Stollsteimer was not charged by police.
