Vandross, 'Temptations' top Image Awards

LOS ANGELES, March 8 (UPI) -- R&B singer Luther Vandross and Cuba Gooding Jr.'s film "The Fighting Temptations" were the top winners at Saturday's NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles.

Vandross, who is still recovering from a near-fatal stroke last April, garnered the most awards for best male artist, best music video, best song and best album for his top-selling "Dance With My Father."

"The Fighting Temptations" was named best film, with the movie's stars also taking home awards. Gooding won for best actor as the lead role in "Radio," and R&B singer Beyonce Knowles was chosen entertainer of the year.

Other winners were Alicia Keys for best female artist, "American Idol's" Ruben Studdard for best new artist and OutKast for best duo/group.

The NAACP Image Awards, which honor artists who promote positive influences for African-Americans and other minorities, was taped to be broadcast Thursday on Fox.
