LOS ANGELES, March 5 (UPI) -- U.S. band R.E.M. is finishing up an album of new material to be released in the fall to be followed by a world tour, its label announced Friday.
Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills recorded 22 new tracks in Athens, Ga., and Vancouver, British Columbia, Warner Brothers Records said in a news release. The band and producer Pat McCarthy are now in the Bahamas choosing the best songs for the project.
"There's a lot of anticipation in our camp for the coming album and tour," Stipe said. "This is the most prolific period we've experienced in several years following the tour last summer ... We've got a lot of ideas about presentation and packaging that we're throwing around, so it's high spirits and a lot of work right now. We're back to being artists."
