NEW YORK, March 3 (UPI) -- Horror novelist Stephen King has infused his new ABC TV series "Kingdom Hospital" with his own near-death experience.
The 13-week series launches Wednesday night on ABC with a two-hour episode.
King spent months in a hospital in 1999, recovering from an auto accident in Maine. He had been walking on the side of a road when a vehicle blindsided him, leaving him in critical condition.
The first 10 minutes of "Kingdom Hospital" recreate the shock and anguish of King's hospital odyssey, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.
The main character in "Kingdom Hospital" is a wealthy Maine artist Peter Rickman, played by Jack Coleman of "Dynasty" fame.
King's previous TV works include the TV mini-series "Rose Red." Many of his novels have been made into movies, such as "Carrie," "The Dead Zone," "Children of the Corn," "Dream Catcher" and "Pet Sematary."
