LOS ANGELES, March 1 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Gabriel Byrne is reportedly in talks to star in "CSI: New York," the latest entry in the immensely popular "CSI" television franchise.

The Irish Echo reported there is a "strong possibility" the Irish star of "The Usual Suspects" and "Ghost Ship" will return to network television in the planned New York-based cop drama.

The CBS show is expected to split its filming schedule between the Big Apple and Los Angeles, The Echo said, noting that would probably suit Byrne, who lives in New York City.

Byrne was last seen on the small-screen in the short-lived ABC sit-com "Madigan Men."

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigations" and "CSI: Miami" are currently two of the top-rated dramas on television.
