Reality series sparks big fat controversy

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles-based producers of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" have asked Fox to stop using a similar title for a hit reality series, reported E! Online.

Gold Circle Films said Fox is misleading viewers into believing "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance" is connected to the hit big-screen romantic comedy, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," starring Nia Vardalos as a sheltered ugly duckling who blossoms into a vibrant, independent woman.

The Vardalos movie is in no way affiliated with the reality series about a pretty, snobbish young woman who must convince her family she intends to marry an outrageous lout. The woman thinks she and her fictional fiance are working together for a $1 million prize, when in reality he is an actor trying to make the task as difficult as possible.

The final episode of the series is set to air Monday.

A Fox spokesperson told the New York Daily News the network couldn't comment on possible litigation, "but we believe this is a big waste of everyone's time."
