'Wind' blows strong at Grammys and Oscars

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Heading into the home stretch of Hollywood's award season, Michael McKean has bagged a Grammy to go with his Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

McKean shared a Grammy Sunday with Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy for best song written for a movie -- the title song from "A Mighty Wind." The song was also nominated for a Golden Globe.

Best known as Lenny Kosnowski on the TV comedy "Laverne & Shirley," McKean and his wife -- "Smallville" star Annette O'Toole -- are up for an Oscar for "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," a love ballad from "A Mighty Wind."

During the annual luncheon in Beverly Hills for Oscar nominees, McKean found some humor in the nomination.

"After 65 years' combined acting experience, we've changed our field -- and we get an Oscar nomination," he said.

McKean is actually an old hand at movie music. He contributed tunes to earlier collaborations with Guest, Levy and Harry Shearer -- "Waiting for Guffman" and "This Is Spinal Tap."

He isn't sure the crew will team up for another project.

"Thank God, we're all busy actors, so it's hard for everyone to clear time," he said.

"And we don't make much money (on those movies)," said O'Toole.

"We don't make any money," said McKean.
