LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- The Oscar-nominated team behind "American Splendor" is in talks with Universal Pictures to rewrite and direct a remake of "Bride of Frankenstein."

Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini from "American Splendor" with Brian Grazer from Imagine Entertainment would produce the remake of the 1935 horror film, Daily Variety reported Wednesday.

In its 2004 reincarnation, Berman and Pulcini would adapt the original script to be set in contemporary New York City, centered on a young woman attending college. After being haunted by someone else's memories, she gradually discovers that she died and was then unnaturally brought back to life.

The original film starred Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester in the title role.
