Pop Idol to go if Simon Cowell does?

LONDON, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- If Simon Cowell quits the British version of "American Idol", "Pop Idol", fellow judge Neil Fox has called for the U.K. show to be scrapped.

Fox said the recently-ended second series should be the last, if Cowell leaves to focus on the U.S. hit version, the BBC reported Monday.

"We can only really do it with the same team," he said. "Part of me thinks it would be great to end it on a high."

After its U.K. success, the Pop Idol franchise went on to become a success around the world, most particularly in the United States. Audiences of more than 28 million have watched the latest "American Idol" series on the FOX network.

Neil Fox told London's Daily Mirror he wanted viewers to look back on Pop Idol as a golden TV moment.

"It would become this thing where people said, 'Do you remember Pop Idol? That show was unbelievable'," he said.
