LOS ANGELES, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Diane Lane said in California recently her lovely real-life romance with Josh Brolin did nothing to help her play a jilted writer in "Under the Tuscan Sun."
Inspired by Frances Mayes' best-selling memoir of the same name, the film is about an American woman (Lane) who starts a new life in Italy after a messy divorce. It will be available on DVD and home video Tuesday.
"I was at the absolute opposite end emotionally. I was completely in love and just going out of my mind with maternal guilt missing my daughter and being in Tuscany for three months was torture for me because it was the most romantic place in the world and I was alone filming this movie about this woman having all these emotional struggles," Lane laughed with reporters recently.
"I was so happy and I wanted to share it with everybody and they couldn't come because of school and work and various things," she added. "I got no pity. Nobody cared. 'You're in Tuscany, we don't feel sorry for you!'"
Lane is engaged to Brolin, star of the popular 1980s adventure "The Goonies" and son of actor James Brolin.
