Hitler spoof musical set for Germany

LONDON, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- "The Producers", the musical that deliberately uses bad taste to send up the Nazi regime, could end up in Berlin.

A German theater company is keenly interested, Sky News reported Monday, and is sending a group of German theatergoers to New York next month to appraise the musical which features the song "Springtime for Hitler".

Said producer Mel Brooks, "If they like it, and say `this will go down nicely', then we'll do it. They will decide whether or not this is just too unspeakably rude for the Germans."

Brooks was in London to promote the West End production of his show, which opens in November with Richard Dreyfuss and British comedy star Lee Evans in the lead roles.
