SYDNEY, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Oscar-winner Russell Crowe will undergo surgery for a dislocated shoulder he suffered while training in Sydney for a role as a boxer in a new movie.

Universal Studios released a statement Saturday saying Crowe, 39, will have to have arthroscopic surgery, which will hold up filming of the "Cinderella Man" for about a month.

Crowe, 39, hurt the same shoulder while training for "Flora Plum," a Jodie Foster movie, and was forced to drop out of that film, the BBC reported.

"Cinderella Man," directed by Ron Howard and also starring Renee Zellweger, is based on the biography of Depression-era boxer Jim Braddock, who beat heavyweight champion Max Baer in 1935. It's tentative release date is December 2004.
