Eminem's mom carjacked on 8 Mile

DETROIT, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Eminem's mom, Debbie Nelson, was carjacked on the Detroit road her rap singing son made famous, 8 Mile, the Detroit Free Press said Saturday.

"It's a little ironic," Oak Park Police Lt. John McNeilance. Eminem made a semi-autobiographical movie called "8 Mile," the road that marks the northern boundary of Detroit and its northern suburbs.

McNeilance said Nelson, 49, of Dryden, stopped her 2002 Honda Accord at the BP station at 8 Mile and Coolidge in Oak Park around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to get gas when a 16-year-old from Detroit allegedly pointed a nickel-plated handgun at her and told her to get out of the car and leave her purse. Nelson told police the teen grabbed her by the arm as she got out and drove off with her car. Police arrested the teen a short time later and recovered the car.

Eminem grew up with his mother in Detroit, but she sued her son claiming she was defamed in his song lyrics. She settled in 2001 for $25,000.
