Nicole Kidman cast in 'Producers' film

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman has been cast in the upcoming film version of the Broadway hit "The Producers," Zap2it.com reported Thursday.

Kidman will star as Ulla, the Swedish secretary who is the love interest to Matthew Broderick's Leo Bloom.

Broadway stars Broderick and Nathan Lane, as Max Bialystock, both will reprise their roles for the Hollywood film, which is expected in theaters by December 2005.

In the musical, the part of Ulla, who is called upon to answer phones and look pretty, is minimal. The film role likely will be expanded for Kidman, the report said.

The Tony Award-winning musical, written and produced by Mel Brooks, centers on a lousy stage producer who convinces his accountant to join him in a get-rich-quick scheme to produce a musical, "Springtime for Hitler." Brooks starred in the original film version in 1968.

Kidman, 36, currently stars in Anthony Minghella's "Cold Mountain" and will next appear in "The Stepford Wives" in June.
