Hollywood power broker to pay IRS

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Hollywood power broker Gavin Polone, executive producer of HBO hit "Curb Your Enthusiasm," must pay the U.S. Internal Revenue Service $407,880.

The friend of Conan O'Brien, Larry David and others, Polone has been locked into a three-year battle with the IRS over payments of $815,000 from his former employer, United Talent Agency, The Smoking Gun reports.

Polone argued that the payments did not qualify as income and therefore were not taxable. Judge Juan Vasquez disagreed, ruling that IRS deficiencies for 1997 and 1998 had to be paid.

The dispute has been one of Hollywood's nastiest, arising out of UTA's controversial 1996 firing of the driven, combative Hollywood iconoclast. Polone is expected to find coming up with the money a breeze, as he has banked more than $20 million over the past decade, according to Vasquez's decision.
