LOS ANGELES, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Dustin Hoffman joins Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Ben Stiller and Teri Polo in Universal Pictures' "Meet the Fockers."

He plays Ben Stiller's father in the sequel to the 2000 comedy hit, "Meet the Parents," reveals Hollywood Reporter. De Niro, who produces, along with Jane Rosenthal and Jay Roach, returns to his original role as Jack Byrnes. Danner again plays his wife, Dina.

In the sequel, Greg Focker (Stiller) and Pam Byrnes (Polo) believe things will run smoothly now Focker has won over his future in-laws. But then the extra-tense Byrnes meets the hyper-relaxed Fockers and the problems begin.

Jim Herzfeld, Tim Rasmussen and Vince DiMeglio penned the script. Mary Parent and Holly Bario are the executives overseeing the project.

Hoffman last appeared in the 2003 film "Runaway Jury." De Niro and Hoffman first appeared together in 1997's "Wag the Dog."

Hoffman won Oscars for "Kramer vs. Kramer" and "Rain Man."
