Bacon praises 'Mystic River' director

NEW YORK, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Kevin Bacon said in New York he knew he'd be in good hands when he signed for Clint Eastwood's crime drama, "Mystic River."

"We let (Eastwood) do the directing," Bacon told reporters when asked if he was able to put his own director's instincts aside and simply act in the film.

"It's really nice when you work with someone who is so confident and so skilled that you don't have to use that part of your brain," he said. "That's a really fabulous thing and, honestly, sometimes that's not the case. You're like, 'Don't you think you need this shot?' or 'Wouldn't you like me to do another one?' and that'll drive you nuts because that really shouldn't be the way you're thinking. You should be thinking about the character and the scene and the other actors... Working with someone who is supremely confident and unbelievably well-prepared and he makes it look like the easiest thing, it's fantastic."

"Mystic River" last week earned three Screen Actors Guild nominations, including one for best ensemble cast.
