George Harrison's guitar to be destroyed

NEW YORK, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A guitar that George Harrison was allegedly coerced into autographing on his deathbed by his New York doctor is slated to be destroyed.

Dr. Gilbert Lederman agreed Friday to destroy the instrument as well as any other autographs his family got while he was treating the Beatle to settle a $10 million federal lawsuit filed by the Harrison estate, the New York Post reported.

"The guitar and any autographs will be disposed of privately," Brooklyn federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis said, reading a statement from lawyers for the Harrison estate and Lederman and Staten Island University Hospital, which was also named in the lawsuit filed last week.

The musician's widow and son have agreed to replace the instrument, which had been given to Lederman's son, Ariel.

"The Harrison estate has never contended that Ariel did anything wrong and appreciates that Ariel is an admirer of George Harrison," the joint statement said.
