Dinklage: People relate to 'Station Agent'

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Peter Dinklage said in New York he thinks "The Station Agent" has done as well as it has because people connect with the film's characters.

Asked recently what he thinks moviegoers and critics are relating to in the film, Dinklage told UPI's Karen Butler, "Loneliness and, I think, it's funny."

Noting how he and co-stars Patricia Clarkson and Bobby Cannavale didn't see the independent film until it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last year, Dinklage admitted: "We didn't know how funny it was going to be. People were joyous. It was great. That's the beauty of (filmmaker) Tom (McCarthy.) The script, the way he presents the story, it doesn't slip into easy sentiment. Even though they're not aware of it, they all have a good sense of humor about themselves, these characters."

Dinklage, who plays a solitary train enthusiast and Clarkson, who portrays a grieving artist in the film, were nominated for Screen Actors Guild awards Thursday. The cast was also nominated for the SAG award for best ensemble.
