Christopher Reeve returns to 'Smallville'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Christopher Reeve is scheduled to reprise his role of Dr. Swann on the WB's "Smallville," producers have announced.

Reeve first appeared on the show in February 2003 as a scientist with knowledge about the origins of Clark Kent, played by Tom Welling.

At the time, co-creator Al Gough said he hoped to make the character of Dr. Swann a recurring role, saying "Every hero needs a wise man," Zap2it.com reported Wednesday.

Reeve is set to return to "Smallville" on the April 14 episode. In the story, Lionel Luthor (John Glover) approaches Swann as part of his digging into Clark's secret.

Reeve, who portrayed Superman in the popular 1980s films of the same name, was paralyzed in 1995 during a horse-riding accident. Since that time, he has continued to act and also serve as an advocate for paralysis research. Reeve starred in and executive produced an adaptation of "Rear Window" for ABC in 1998 and also made a guest appearance on "The Practice" last season.
