HUESCA, Spain, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Actor Orlando Bloom has arrived in northeastern Spain to begin filming his latest film about the 12th century Crusades, the Spanish news agency EFE reports.
Bloom, who has become an international star since acting in 2003's hits "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," created a bit of a stir as young women gathered at the Hotel Villa in the village of Ayerbe where the actors and crew are staying.
The production, "Kingdom of Heaven," is set to begin filming next week at nearby Loarre Castle, which has been converted into a 12th century fortress.
Bloom plays a blacksmith who becomes involved in the Christian crusades in the Holy Land when European knights battled local Muslims to take control of Jerusalem.
Veteran British director Ridley Scott ("Gladiator," "Alien," "Thelma and Louise") is heading up the film, which is scheduled for a 2005 release.
