LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Actor Peter Sarsgaard, the multiple award-winner for his role in the independent film "Shattered Glass," told Zap2it.com Wednesday that fame "is empty."
In the popular film based on a true story, Sarsgaard stars as Chuck Lane, editor to Stephen Glass, the journalist who fabricated at least 26 of his 41 stories published in the New Republic.
Sarsgaard said he thinks that Glass became addicted to the adrenaline and the popularity he garnered through his fabricated tales.
Glass has been quoted as saying that the film is his worst nightmare, although he is simultaneously promoting his book "The Fabulist" on the heels of the film's release.
Sarsgaard does not care that he is helping give publicity to Glass, because he said it holds no meaning in the grand scheme of things.
"I think his need for fame was bigger than anything else. Giving it to him is not such a big deal. To me fame is empty. It's like handing him nothing," Sarsgaard said.
Sarsgaard already has received best supporting actor awards from film critic associations in Boston, San Francisco and Toronto. He is considered a shoo-in for the Golden Globe and the Independent Spirit Award.
