New indie label focuses on Latin/jazz

MILLWOOD, N.Y., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A new independent record label opening its doors this year will focus on new and veteran artists, primarily from the Big Apple's Latin jazz scene.

ZOHO Music will release its debut projects Feb. 4 by Harvie S and Pablo Aslan, two of New York's leading Latin jazz bassists, with "Texas Rumba" and "Avantango" respectively. Other artist projects in the queue include Joan Stiles with Clark Terry and Frank Wess, the Dave Liebman Group, drummer Sunny Jain and guitarists Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Vic Juris.

"Our releases will feature a creative mix of established artists such as Dave Liebman and Carlos Barbosa-Lima, together with some incredible young talent coming straight out of the vibrant New York club scene," said ZOHO owner Joachim Becker.

He said the Millwood-based label has signed a distribution contract for the U.S. and Puerto Rico with Synergy Distribution in Denver.
