DETROIT, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- White Stripes' frontman Jack White was charged Tuesday in Detroit with aggravated assault and could face up to one year in jail, RollingStone.com reported.
The charges result from a Dec. 13 fight with Jason Stollsteimer of the band Von Bondies. White produced the Von Bondies' 2001 album, "Lack of Communication," but has since had a falling out with the band members.
White and Stollsteimer were at the Majestic Theater Center when, according to Stollsteimer, who filed the charges, White "proceeded to punch him on the right eye approximately seven times."
Stollsteimer claims White was upset that Stollsteimer would not speak with him. White claims that he acted in self-defense after Stollsteimer pushed him to the ground.
Stollsteimer ended up with a swollen right eye and bloody nose; White cut his left hand.
The White Stripes are scheduled to play on New Year's Eve at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, before they begin a U.K. tour in January.
