NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- VH-1 has signed rock 'n' roll madman Ted Nugent to a reality series based from his Texas ranch and concert stage, the Hollywood Reporter reported Tuesday.

Based on strong ratings from a recent two-hour special about Nugent that recently aired on VH-1, the cable network has developed "Surviving Nugent," a reality series that drops contestants into Nugent's world.

"Surviving" is expected to combine elements of MTV's popular series "The Osbournes," based on rocker Ozzy Osbourne's family, with "Survivor," an outdoors competition designed to weed out the weakest ones. Contestants will participate in Nugent's world, which is reported to focus on his unconventional lifestyle as a bad-boy rocker and his equally odd family, while braving the elements both from his ranch in central Texas and while in concert.

Nugent's wife and son also will star in the series.

Nugent, who first became famous in the 1970s with hits such as "Cat Scratch Fever," has developed a controversial persona that centers on his passion for hunting and outspoken political views.
