Pearl Jam sells single through Amazon

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Rock band Pearl Jam signed with Amazon.com to sell its CD single "Man of the Hour" through the popular e-commerce site, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Until now, according to Wednesday's article, the veteran band, which ended its record contract with Sony Music, has sold the single exclusively on the Pearl Jam Web site. The single is from the Sony "Big Fish" soundtrack, which goes on sale Dec. 23.

The partnership with Amazon.com makes Pearl Jam the most mainstream act to participate in the Web-based retailer's Advantage for Music Program. Generally, unknown independent artists have used the program to sell their music.

"Pearl Jam is exploring a number of different ways to get music directly to its fans following the recent fulfillment of its contract with Epic Records, with whom the band has not yet decided to re-sign," said Pearl Jam's manager Kelly Curtis.

"We have the opportunity right now to test the waters with a variety of progressive companies that are working to expand options for music fans and artists alike."
