LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Organizers announced Friday that composer Danny Elfman will receive a top honor at the upcoming 15th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Elfman -- who has composed scores for such movies as "Spider-Man," "Men in Black" and "Mission: Impossible" -- will receive the Frederick Loewe Award for Career Achievement in Film Composing.
Festival organizers also said that writer-director Jim Sheridan will receive the International Filmmaker Award, Producing & Directing at the festival's awards ceremonies on Jan. 11. The festival previously announced that it would present awards to actor-director Kevin Costner ("Open Range"), writer-director Anthony Minghella ("Cold Mountain") and producer Richard D. Zanuck ("Driving Miss Daisy," "The Verdict").
Elfman's current project is director Tim Burton's new drama "Big Fish." Sheridan's newest project is "In America," the story of Irish immigrants finding their way in contemporary America.
