R&B wins big at Billboard Music Awards

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- R&B singers Beyonce and R. Kelly each walked away as the top winners Wednesday at 2003 Billboard Music Awards, nabbing four trophies each.

Awards recognizing the year's top artists and songs, as calculated by Billboard magazine's weekly charts, were presented on the live telecast from the MGM Grand Hotel.

Beyonce, who was a part of the popular trio Destiny's Child, won awards for her first solo effort, "Dangerously In Love": new female artist, new R&B artist, Hot 100 female artist, and Hot 100 award for most weeks at No. 1.

R. Kelly took home awards for Hot 100 producer, R&B producer, Hot 100 songwriter and R&B songwriter. The performer closed the show with his top single "Did It For Love."

Other winners included rapper 50 Cent, who was the top nominee with six nods going into the show, winning for artist of the year, R&B artist and rap artist.

Sting was presented the Century Award.
