LONDON, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- The great-grandson of Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien appears in the final installment of the movie trilogy, "The Return of the King."
The idea was director Peter Jackson's, who asked Royd Tolkien, 34, to play a Gondorian Ranger, the BBC reported Monday.
Tolkien, who lives in Wales, said it was "a huge privilege" to take the role in the film, which will be released worldwide between Dec. 17 and Dec. 20.
Tolkien said he was "incredibly proud" his great-grandfather's stories had been translated to the big screen.
The final part of Jackson's trilogy, premiered in Wellington, New Zealand, last week.
