De Niro may have had medical procedure

NEW YORK, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Actor Robert De Niro, who has said he has prostate cancer, may have undergone a medical procedure at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City.

De Niro spokesman Stan Rosenfield has refused to comment on whether the actor underwent prostate surgery, the New York Post reported.

"That's something we would never comment on," he said.

However, the Post reported a top New York movie-industry figure had leaked the information to the newspaper.

The 60-year-old Oscar-winning actor revealed his cancer had been detected at "an early stage," in October, but he refused to reveal what course of treatment he would seek.

"Because of the early detection and his excellent physical condition, doctors project a full recovery," Rosenfield had said Oct. 20.

The actor's father, abstract artist Robert De Niro Sr., died of cancer 10 years ago at age 71, the Post noted.
