
NEW YORK, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Organizers of Monday's 8th annual Jazz at Lincoln Center gala announced Thursday the event raised $1.38 million for educational programs.
The "Here's to the Ladies: A Celebration of Women in Jazz" concert at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall was hosted by CBS newsman Ed Bradley and featured music by singers Roberta Flack, Cleo Laine, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Diana Ross and pianist Marian McPartland.
They performed fresh renditions of classic tunes popularized by Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and other legendary ladies of jazz.
Phoebe Jacobs, Executive Vice President of the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, received JALC's Award for Leadership and its Award for Artistic Excellence was presented to jazz singer Shirley Horn.
