More films and TV being shot in NYC

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- More and more films and television shows are being shot on the streets of New York City, according to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theater & Broadcasting has issued a record 152 filming permits in one day, said Bloomberg.

Nine feature-length films have been completed in their entirely in the Big Apple this year and at least 10 more are shooting now on city streets, the New York Post reported.

Two sitcom's ABC's "Hope & Faith" and NBC's "Whoopi" have also been taping at studios in Queens.

New York City has begun changing some areas to look like other parts of the country, just as the city's competitors for film and TV work in Canada have turned parts of Toronto and Montreal to look like New York City.

"Kinsey," a family drama starring Liam Neeson, which takes place in Middle America was shot on Staten Island, which looks like a suburban neighborhood in Ohio, according to New York City Film Commissioner Katherine Oliver.
