Senate demands Iraq documents by Friday

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The CIA has a Friday deadline to give the Senate Intelligence Committee documents on the pre-war assessments of Iraq's weapons, a report said Thursday.

In a letter to CIA Director George Tenet, Committee Chairman Sen. Pat Roberts, a Republican, and ranking Democrat Sen. John Rockefeller wrote: "You must expedite our access to the current list of outstanding documents and interview requests," CNN reported

CIA spokesman Bill Harlow said the agency "just received the letter and will review it carefully."

The senators referred to a letter sent to them last week by Tenet in which the CIA director said the agency would provide material relating to Iraq "as soon as possible."

"This information was to have been provided to the committee five months ago," wrote the senators.

Harlow said the U.S. intelligence community is "working hard" to provide lawmakers with the information they want.
