Petrova continues hot streak

VILLANOVA, Pa., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Nadia Petrova routed American Amy Frazier, 6-4, 6-0, on Wednesday in the first round of the Advanta Championships.

The seventh-seeded Russian was runner-up at the Generali Ladies Linz last week after reaching the semifinals at the Swisscom Challenge earlier this month.

Petrova is having a breakout season, having reached the semifinals of the French Open and the fourth round at the U.S. Open.

In Wednesday's other first-round match, Germany's Marlene Weingartner topped American lucky loser Angela Haynes, 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier, ninth seed Meghann Shaughnessy dispatched fellow American Ashley Harkleroad, 6-3, 6-1.
