No red public carpet for MTV Europe Awards

EDINBURGH, Scotland, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Music fans and politicians in Edinburgh, Scotland, are seeing red over the lack of fan access to next month's MTV Europe Awards red carpet.

Fans eager to see Kylie Minogue, Beyonce Knowles or Christina Aguilera are being barred from watching the stars arrive at the event at the Western Harbor, Scotsman.com reported.

Organizers of the event have told city officials that a red carpet area is being planned but that the public would not have access to it to ensure the highest possible security.

"I've been told that no members of the public will be allowed to gather at the entrance or watch the stars walking up the red carpet," said Edinburgh's Deputy Lord Provost Steve Cardownie.

"A great opportunity would be lost if there isn't a change of heart on this and I'm hoping MTV will have a rethink over this."

There were no local tickets for sale for the event so Edinburgh citizens had to compete with the rest of Europe on a single hotline to obtain 2,000 tickets for the event. The tickets sold out in just 14 minutes.
