Jack Bruce receives liver transplant

CAMBRIDGE, England, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, a member of the legendary British rock group Cream, is recovering after a liver transplant.

Bruce, who was diagnosed with liver cancer earlier this year, had the transplant operation Sept. 19.

"Unfortunately there was a rejection of the new liver, infection and then kidney failure," reads a statement from the Bruce family, "and after being very critical for a period in which we almost lost him, Jack is now making a successful recovery."

Bruce is at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
