American Idol to do Christmas special

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The Fox network's "American Idol" will broadcast a Christmas special next month, the network announced Monday.

The one-hour show, to air Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 8 pm ET, will feature winners Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard plus contestants from the previous two seasons singing holiday classics.

A CD of those classics, "American Idol -- The Great Holiday Classics," will be released Oct. 14, Fox said.

American Idol begins its third season in January.
