Limbaugh admits to pain medication problem

Speaking on his radio show, Limbaugh said he had always tried to be honest and open about his life.

"So I need to tell you today that part of what you have heard and read is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication."

Limbaugh promised to check himself into a treatment center for the next 30 days for treatment.

He said he first started taking prescription painkillers some years ago to treat post-surgical pain following spinal surgery.

But, he said, he continued to have severe pain in his lower back and also in his neck due to herniated discs.

"Rather than opt for additional surgery for these conditions, I chose to treat the pain with prescribed medication. This medication turned out to be highly addictive."

He said he takes full responsibility for his problem.
