HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The WB Network has OKd a pilot for a remake of the Irwin Allen fantasy-adventure drama, "Lost in Space," the Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

Features chief John Woo will executive produce and possibly direct the pilot, while Doug Petrie ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") will write the pilot script.

A modern account of the Robinson family, their robot and evil Dr. Zachary Smith piqued the interest of several networks, setting up an unusual competition among CBS, ABC and the WB for the same project.

Jon Jashni and Kevin Burns are set to executive produce the pilot, along with Petrie and Woo through the Synthesis Entertainment banner that Jashni and Burns formed in 2001 to oversee revivals of the many TV and film properties controlled by Irwin Allen's estate.
