NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- John Ridley is set to adapt and direct James McManus' non-fiction bestseller "Positively Fifth Street" for GreeneStreet Films and Killer Films of New York.

"When I read this book, all I could think about was what an amazing movie it would make -- combining poker with a high-profile murder case," GreeneStreet's Fisher Stevens told Daily Variety.

McManus followed in the footsteps of Hunter S. Thompson and his 1970s "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," and checked into the same Las Vegas hotel 30 years later on assignment for Harper's magazine to write a feature on the World Series of Poker.

Except McManus took his advance from Harper's, used it as the entry stake and entered the poker tournament. He ended up finishing in fifth place.

In addition to covering the tournament, McManus got wrapped up in the Las Vegas trial of a stripper and her lover, accused of murdering the former's fiance, son of the powerful casino family that founded the tournament, Variety reported.
