Roger Daltrey plays explorer

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Roger Daltrey, veteran vocalist of The Who, has recreated the 1869 journey of explorer John Wesley Powell for The History Channel.

In the 10-part series, "Extreme History With Roger Daltrey," the 59-year-old musician dons a wolf skin to hunt buffalo as Native Americans did, herds cattle with cowboys on the Chisholm Trail and learns to make a fire, caveman style, the New York Post reported.

In the series that tries to be authentic as possible, Daltrey ate only what was naturally available in the 1800s -- including rattlesnakes.

"It didn't bother me. I'm very open-minded about food -- conscious of the fact that we are omnivores ... and we'll eat anything to stay alive," he said.

The British musician said he wanted to do the series because he has traveled throughout America more than most Americans but he has mostly seen the "inside of limos, lots of hotel rooms, concert halls and stadiums."
