CHICAGO, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Oprah Winfrey said the reason she never married and had children was so that she could work with the "world's children," in an interview with TV Guide.
"People look at me and think, 'She must be unhappy, something must be missing,' but that's because they're looking at my life from their perspective," Winfrey said.
"Stedman (Graham) and I have a great relationship that allows me to be me in the fullest sense, with no expectations of wifedom and all that would mean."
She said that a visit with orphaned children in Africa, was the the single greatest moment of her her life," the New York Post reported. She said she planned to open 12 schools for girls in Africa beginning in 2005.
"I went to Africa to create the best Christmas possible for kids who'd never had one," she said. "And the joy in that room was so thick you physically feel it. In that moment, it hit me. Now I see why I am not married. Now I see why I never had children. I am supposed to work with these children."
