Hank Williams' heirs ruled owners of songs

NASHVILLE, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The late Hank Williams may have some "new" music on the charts, the result of a court ruling his heirs own 40 songs never commercially produced.

The ruling last week in Nashville, Tenn., gave sole ownership of a rare collection of recordings to his heirs, Jett Williams and Hank Williams Jr.

The songs were aired once on "Mother's Best Flour Show," a radio show on WSM-AM in the 1950s.

The recordings were saved from destruction in the mid-1960s by Les Leverett, who was the official photographer for the Grand Ole Opry at the time.

The legal action was initiated by Jett Williams and her husband, attorney F. Keith Adkinson, to prevent a telemarketing campaign of the overdubbed "Mother's Best Flour" archives.

She said she would make the radio show recordings of the songs available.
