Cash is a four-letter word

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Those obnoxious "South Park" brats are about to add a new four-letter word to their vocabulary -- cash.

The Comedy Central cartoon is headed for rerun syndication that could produce $100 million in the first four years, making it the biggest grossing cable series ever.

"South Park" is in its seventh season and syndication negotiations are centered on the fall 2004 or fall 2005 season. The show is particularly popular among men 18 to 49.

There was no word on whether distributor Debmar Studios is looking for all cash or barter in the deal, Daily Variety reported.

"South Park" debuted in 1997 and will have amassed 100 half-hour episodes by the end of the current season.

"We'll have to clean up some of the episodes, and take out the bad words," Debmar President Mort Marcus acknowledged. He said about a dozen episodes cannot be broadcast -- especially a June 2001 installment in which the expletive used to describe a bodily waste was uttered 162 times. Even heavily edited, Marcus expects most stations to slot the series at 11 p.m. or later.

Harry Potter titles may have been patented

LONDON, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- The London Sun reports the possible discovery of the titles of the sixth and seventh books in the Harry Potter series.

The titles "Harry Potter and The Mudblood Revolt" and "Harry Potter and the Quest of the Centaur" have been secretly registered as trademarks by a company called Seabottom Productions, the Sun said.

The firm registered itself a few days before the patent application on July 24 and Seabottom Productions shares the same London address as lawyers Field, Fisher, Waterhouse, according to the Sun.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's literary agent Christopher Little refused to comment on the patent applications.

Rachel Tan, who represents Field, Fisher, Waterhouse, said, "I have been instructed by my client not to speak to the press."

However, there is speculation the whole exercise may be smokescreen.
