NBC signs deal on 'Fear Factor'

HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- NBC and Endemol USA have agreed to three-year deal on "Fear Factor" that also gives NBC Enterprises the syndication rights.

The deal allows NBCE to begin pitching the show popular with the younger viewers to cable and local television stations as early as 2004.

Daily Variety reported that according to industry insiders, NBC will pay Endemol, led by David Goldberg, between $1.25 million and $1.5 million for the fifth season of "Fear Factor," which starts in fall 2004.

What makes the show such a lucrative prospect for syndication is that it draws good ratings even in repeats, unlike other reality television shows.

"'Fear Factor' has been one of the huge reality successes of the past couple seasons, and it's one of the most underestimated shows in all of television," Zucker told Variety. "And from an economic standpoint, it's become one of the most financially important shows to us."
