LOS ANGELES, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The American Society of Cinematographers plans to present its lifetime achievement award to "Raging Bull" cinematographer Michael Chapman.

The presentation will be made at ASC's 18th annual Outstanding Achievement Awards Feb. 8.

Chapman began his career in 1974 with "The Last Detail." He earned Oscar nods for "Raging Bull" (1981), and "The Fugitive" (1994). Among the other films on his resume are "Taxi Driver," "The Wanderers, "The White Dawn" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

"Michael Chapman has made extraordinary contributions to the art of filmmaking," ASC President Richard Crudo said in a release. "He is an innovative storyteller with an original approach to cinematography. His artistry and courage are a source of inspiration for all aspiring filmmakers with unrealized dreams."

Chapman is a Massachusetts native and attended Columbia University before spending two years in the Army.
