Video games are part of campus life

SALT LAKE CITY, July 14 (UPI) -- College students are playing video games in record numbers. Utah's Deseret Morning News reports.

The newspaper says video games are even becoming part of the social landscape on campuses across the country, not just as a break from schoolwork or a panacea for loneliness.

The insights come from "Let the Games Begin," a report released last week by the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

The study determined more than two out of three college students play video, computer or online games. And the majority of those students say they do so either regularly or occasionally.

Students who play say they do so in order to spend more time with friends. One-fifth of those surveyed said "gaming helped them make new friends, as well as improve existing friendships."
