NASHVILLE, July 14 (UPI) -- The International Entertainer's Buyers Program Monday named Wayne Newton recipient of the IEBA Humanitarian Award.

The entertainer will be honored for his various philanthropic gestures during the IEBA annual conference Oct. 5-8 in Nashville, Tenn.

Wayne Newton has been a prominent supporter of Opportunity Village, the Las Vegas-based, not-for-profit agency that serves people with intellectual disabilities. Opportunity Village operates two campuses, two work centers and four Thrift Stores in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nev.

In October 2001, Newton was named chief executive officer of the USO Celebrity Circle, and has made four humanitarian visits overseas so far, entertaining American troops as far away as Afghanistan.

He has also donated his time and energy to a variety of telethons and fundraisers serving various causes.
